HOW SHOULD I USE MY MINDFULNESS JAR?
Glitter jars are one of many sensory tools to cultivate mindfulness. When we quiet our turbulent emotions and thoughts, we can start to see things more clearly. With a clearer mind, we can then decide our next best step.
Think of the liquid in the jar as your mind and body and the glitter as your thoughts and feelings. Just as the glitter never leaves the jar, we will always have thoughts and feelings; they are all normal and okay, even the difficult ones.
Once you shake the jar, you will notice the glitter doesn't immediately fall to the bottom. In this same way, we can't rush stillness in our minds and bodies. As you watch, you may want to say to yourself...
I am safe
I take a break
I unwind
SHAKE the jar
Watch the glitter as it settles. Take time to be still.
Notice how you feel after the glitter has settled. Do you feel calmer? Do you feel more focused? Do you know your next best step?
WHEN SHOULD I USE MY MINDFULNESS JAR?
Here are a few ideas to get you started...
Brian breaks while studying
Before you go to sleep
With one hand on my heart
Gently tapping on my chest
After a conversation
Before a competition
Before/after teaching a class
